Preventative care is important for patients of all ages, but particularly children. In fact, we recommend booking your child’s first appointment at the appearance of their first tooth or before their first birthday. This is so that we can educate parents on how to prevent dental cavities and future dental issues, in addition to getting your child comfortable with visiting the dentist. We have children of our own, so we understand the importance of ensuring they’re treated with a gentle approach and creating a fun and stress-free environment for them.

Booking Your Child’s First Appointment
The best way to stay on top of your child’s dental care is by getting them into a healthy oral hygiene routine as early as possible. We recommend booking their first appointment before their first birthday or by the appearance of their first tooth.
During their first appointment, we’ll do a full exam on their teeth, gums, tongue, and jaw. They may or may not require a gentle cleaning which will remove any tartar, plaque or stains. We’ll discuss with you how to continue looking after their teeth at home, including how to properly brush their teeth and which types of toothbrushes or toothpaste to use. We will also discuss healthy habits for cavity prevention.
We’ll schedule regular check-up appointments and cleanings for your child depending on their dental needs and risks for cavities.
Can Toddlers Get Cavities?
Yes, in fact, toddlers as young as two can get cavities. They’re never “too young” to visit the dentist. It’s important to prevent tooth decay as young as possible in order to promote healthy adult teeth. Even before they begin teething, you can start wiping their gums with a damp cloth.
If you suspect your toddler has a cavity, bring them in for a check-up as soon as possible. Baby teeth can become cavitated quickly, requiring the need for prompt dental attention.
Orthodontic Care
We’re honoured we get to watch your children grow up and we enjoy getting to know them and their unique personalities they develop. But we also enjoy ensuring they receive the best oral health care as possible.
Your child will be screened for their need for orthodontic care. Issues like overcrowding, gaps, crooked teeth, an overbite, underbite, or crossbite, will be discussed so that timely intervention can occur. Children are screened as early as 10 to 14 to determine the best course of orthodontic treatment.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth removal is a common procedure in our office. Wisdom teeth can make an appearance between ages 16 and 21, and even sometimes later. We regularly monitor our teen and young adult patients for issues with their wisdom teeth as wisdom teeth can cause pain and problems for surrounding teeth.
Comfortable & Professional Care
We understand the importance of keeping children comfortable during their visit. We want them to trust us and not grow up being scared of the dentist! We have modern, cozy furniture in the waiting room and toys and video games to keep them occupied while they wait for their appointment. We even have televisions in every room.
