Dental Crowns, Bridges & Veneers

Thanks to the advances in modern dentistry, patients all around the world can reap the benefits of cosmetic dentistry has to offer. If you have a gap, chip, or broken tooth that you feel embarrassed about and end up hiding your smile because of it, it’s time we discuss the best options for you regarding crowns, bridges, or veneers. Don’t hide your smile anymore.

Let’s boost your confidence and overall well-being by improving the appearance and function of your teeth. We offer unique and customized solutions that will leave you with the smile you’ve always dreamt of and the ability to eat what you desire.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns, sometimes referred to as “caps”, are the perfect permanent solution to missing or damaged teeth. They fit right over your existing tooth once it’s prepared as they are custom-made for each patient, and prevent further damage from occurring. They’re often made from porcelain, a very durable and natural-looking material, but we’ll discuss the best material options with you before creating a mould. Crowns can be used when:

  • Your tooth was damaged from decay, a crack, chip, or was broken
  • Your tooth is worn down or weak
  • Your tooth is discoloured
  • You’ve undergone a root canal
  • You have a dental implant

With proper oral hygiene and aftercare, crowns can last for many years.

Bridges

Bridges can help replace one or more missing teeth. Gaps should be taken care of as soon as possible as your teeth may shift into the hole. A bridge is a literal bridge of teeth that bond to your natural teeth, or implants, on either side of the gap.

The great thing about bridges is, they not only fill in gaps and improve the appearance of your smile, but they can also help improve your speech, chewing, and digestion issues and they don’t require surgery! The process is actually quite quick and simple. We’ll prepare the surrounding teeth that will hold the bridge by removing a portion of the enamel, take a mould of the teeth, have it sent to be made in a lab, and then cement it atop of the surrounding teeth. The overall process should take approximately two visits.

Veneers

Veneers work in a similar way to crowns, but they repair more minor cracks, chips, or gaps in your teeth. Veneers are made from thin layers of porcelain and bonded to the front of your teeth after some enamel has been removed. The porcelain is a durable material that looks completely natural and is stain resistant, so if you have discoloured teeth you’re very unhappy with that whitening services aren’t exactly helping, veneers are another option to consider. They can boost your confidence back up, and offer a long-term solution to your smile. Veneers need to be taken care of with a regular oral hygiene routine.

Why Replacing Missing Teeth is so Important?

When a tooth is lost it is important to replace it as early as possible because the surrounding teeth will begin to shift and move.  The gap will start to close and the teeth will start to shift and tilt. This will alter the relationship your teeth have with each other and can cause detrimental effects to your bite. For example, a lower tooth that is missing can cause it’s opposing upper tooth to migrate downward called “super eruption”. This can lead to root exposure and sensitivity of that tooth in addition to gum problems such as infections and eventual mobility and loss of that tooth.  Missing teeth can also change your facial profile giving you a caved-in appearance.

Can You Floss with a Dental Crown, Bridge, Or Veneer?

Flossing should be done regularly in order to remove any leftover food or plaque from your teeth to prevent tooth decay and discolouration. Even after having a crown, bridge, or veneer placed, it’s important to continue flossing. Though your crown may protect your tooth from further damage, it won’t protect you against gingivitis or gum disease.

If your crown, bridge or veneer has a chip or crack, or has fallen or been knocked out, it’s best to get to our office as soon as possible so we can fix it. Simply give us a call at 905-471-9100 and we’ll fit you into our schedules as soon as possible.
